America's Shield being used as a coaster for Stark felt ackward and shoehorned for no real reason it seemed at the time, I just remember thinking "Why the hell is that here? Oh, I guess they just wanted to put something Captain America-y in there really bad, okay"īut revisiting it post MARVEL universe building, it feels rich and rewarding for it's forward leaning narrative, and is quite astonishing in the way it feels like a huge retroactive payoff after seeing the films that had yet to come. Weird, unexplained gags like seeing a prototype for Capt. Having loved the first film, I remember feeling somewhat ripped off in that the film felt like it was being hijacked to tell this Avengers story that at that time held no concrete promise of even happening ( so i felt). Seeing this film when it first came out in theaters, I remember having a fairly adverse reaction to it.
Just re-watched Iron Man 2 for the first time in years and had a completely different experience with it than when first seen. Spoilers for those who have not seen Avengers, Captain America 1, Iron Man 2.
